Speak Responce

You gaze around with your newly opened eyes taking in everything that surrounds you. As you blink the scene suddenly changes to a room and you are instantly aware that you are taller and more intelligent with a greater independence. Quickly you blink again and are much taller with so much more intelligence but are behaving very oddly. After the next blink the vast intellect and wisdom stuns you momentarily until you blink again. This time you are very old and frail with much well learned knowledge and a wisdom that comes from your many years of experience. You go through many different phases in your life which all offer new experiences and new ideas.

Humans have many different phases of development which causes us to act different, think different, and cause us to gain a new personality. The first of these stages is when we are first born. In this stage of our life the brain is making many new connections which cause us to learn very quickly and hones some of the skills that we are using now. Our bodies also start growing larger which allows us to have more abilities and greater strength; as our bodies grow stronger we may be able to walk.

In the book 'Speak' everyone is a teenager which is the next major phase of brain growth and bodily change. Recent studies show that teenagers minds are in a major developmental stage which makes them prone to follow their impulses and not to be able to know what should be in the back round and what they should focus on. The pre frontal cortex also isn't fully developed; this section of the brain tells us if something is right or wrong. When Andy Evens went outside with Melinda he was probably following one of his impulses without his pre frontal cortex telling him yes or no.

Even though the teenage years bring in all kinds of new information it isn't until we are adults that we stop developing. When we become adults our mind is honed into the skills that are being used in everyday life and our mind stops growing along with our body. We can still absorb information but it doesn’t have as much of an effect as it did when we were teenagers. If Melinda and Andy Evens were adults then nothing would have happened and life would have been going on like normal.

Throughout life the choices that you make have a large effect on who you are and who you will become. Any disaster can be avoided if you can do the right thing.
